Separation Toilet/Dry Toilet
A separation toilet (also known as a dry toilet or composting toilet) is a toilet that separates urine and feces. This has several advantages, such as less odor, lower water usage, and the possibility to compost or reuse waste.
How does a separation toilet work?
- Urine collection: The urine is diverted through a separate container or pipe, often leading to a tank or an absorption field.
- Solid waste: The feces falls into a separate bin, usually with compostable material such as sawdust or coconut fiber.
- Odor-free: Because urine and feces do not mix, there is less odor. A ventilation system can further improve this.
Advantages ✅ No water required
✅ No sewer connection needed
✅ Environmentally friendly: waste can be composted or reused
✅ Less odor than a chemical toilet
